When do loofah flowers usually bloom?

If you live in a city, you have probably basically never seen a loofah flower, but if you grew up in the countryside, then this is fairly common. Whenever the flowering season arrives, many small yellow flowers hang on its loofah vines, and they look quite beautiful. But do you know when it blooms? Then let's find out together.

1. When does it bloom?

Under normal conditions, its flowering time is during the period from summer to autumn.

We all know that the loofah flower belongs to the Cucurbitaceae family. Its stem looks thin and long, and its leaves are somewhat palm-shaped, with many cracks on them, large with pointed tips, and jagged edges. It usually begins to sprout from the leaf axils in summer, and at this time many flowers begin to bloom on the stem. They generally open in the morning and wither in the evening, then open gradually in successive stages, continuing until autumn.

2. How can you make it bloom?

1. Suitable light

Loofah is actually a short-day plant. The amount of light it enjoys each day does not need to be too long, but the light should be stronger; the stronger it is, the better it will grow, and this also helps it bloom. In addition, although it prefers strong light, it can also tolerate a little weak light. During its seedling stage, it is best to give it short-term sunlight and a relatively large temperature difference, which will increase the later yield. After that, throughout the entire growth and development period, continue to give it shorter sunlight and higher temperatures; this will make its stems and leaves develop better and, of course, produce more flowers.

2. Suitable temperature

It is very fond of heat and also tolerant of warmth. It can grow very well at a normal temperature of 20 to 30 degrees. So if conditions allow, try to place it in a greenhouse and keep the temperature within this range, so that it can bloom as soon as possible.

3. Suitable moisture

Many plants are very afraid of soil that is too wet, but loofah is an exception. It likes moisture very much, so the humidity in the soil should be relatively high, generally preferably above 70%, and at the lowest it must not be lower than 50%, otherwise its growth will become slow.

4. Suitable soil

For it, soil selection is very flexible, and the requirements are not that high; basically all types of soil can be handled. However, in order to make it produce more flowers, it is best to use a loam soil with high organic matter content, a thick soil layer, good aeration, and good water retention.
