When Does a Dahlia Bloom? A Detailed Guide to Its Flowering Period
1. When Does It Bloom
Usually, for most dahlias planted outdoors, the flowering period falls in May to June and September to November, with blooms appearing in two separate time windows. In summer they basically do not bloom, because the higher temperatures at that time cause them to enter a dormant period, so no flowers are produced.
If you are in the south, the normal blooming time is from February to June. That is, it starts blooming from the beginning of spring. So the blooming time sometimes also depends on the climate.
No matter which month it is, we can see that its flowering period is extremely long; from autumn to spring it can bloom continuously, with each flower lasting up to a month, and the flowering period lasting nearly half a year. Anyone at all would fall in love with it.
2. How to Make It Bloom as Soon as Possible
1. Plenty of light
Whether you grow it in a pot or outdoors, you must give it enough light. This is especially important for potted plants. During normal care, do not keep it indoors all the time; move it frequently to a sunny spot to sun it, as this helps it bloom earlier and also extends the flowering time. Although it loves sunlight, in summer you should shade it appropriately, because the light is too intense at that time and can easily send it into dormancy.
2. Suitable temperature
It is usually afraid of cold. In other words, it prefers a somewhat warmer spot. If during normal care you can keep the temperature between 15°C and 25°C, it will grow better and bloom earlier, because temperatures in this range are most suitable for its growth. But it must never exceed 32°C, because once it does, growth stops, which in turn affects flowering.
3. Points to Note
Now that we understand its flowering period, we should know that one stretch of it falls in summer. At this time you need to pay attention to one thing. Summer is a season of high temperatures and plenty of rain, so if you are growing it outdoors, shade it and shelter it from rain promptly, otherwise its roots can easily rot.
