Five measures for livestock and poultry disease prevention in winter

Measure one: cold protection and warmth. Livestock and poultry sheds must be able to withstand severe cold. In winter, sheds should be inspected and repaired regularly to ensure that the roof does not leak rain or snow, the walls have no draft holes, the floor is covered with bedding straw, and door and window curtains are hung, so that cold protection and warmth measures are in place.

Measure two: do a good job of sanitation. Sheds should be cleaned often, bedding straw changed frequently, and sewage and manure removed and cleaned early. The removed bedding straw and manure should be piled at fixed points or in septic tanks and disinfected by bioheat fermentation, so as to maintain a good environment with clean and sanitary sheds, fresh air, and dry comfort.

Measure three: careful feeding. Adding some compound feed rich in energy and complete in nutrition, such as corn, grains, and wheat, can make livestock and poultry strong and gain weight and enhance disease resistance. For drinking water, clean warm water or well water should be used to ensure livestock and poultry eat their fill and drink well and avoid hunger at night. Cattle and sheep should seize the opportunity when there is no rain, snow, or freezing to graze in a roaming manner on warmer grassy slopes sheltered from the wind and facing the sun, without resting at noon, and going out late and returning early when grazing. They should as much as possible be driven to wind-sheltered places with a relatively warm microclimate, such as riverbanks and pond dams, to bask in the sun and move around more.

Measure four: strict disinfection. Routine disinfection of sheds should be carried out regularly. Specialized households (farms) should set up disinfection pools or lay disinfection carpets at the main gate and the entrances and exits of passages for people and livestock. Disinfectant solution and disinfection carpets should be changed frequently to ensure they are fresh and effective. If outsiders enter or exit, or vehicles enter or exit, strict disinfection measures must be taken.

Measure five: strengthen immunization and prevention. In immunization injections, operations must be carried out in accordance with strict requirements and procedures, and registration and file creation must be done well, immunization ear tags must be worn, and the immunization density of livestock and poultry must be 100%.
