Mulching Techniques for Greenhouse Plastic Film

Greenhouse Plastic Film Mulching Techniques:

1. Mulching time: After strawberries are planted in autumn, mulching is generally carried out during two periods - before overwintering and before early spring sprouting. In cold regions, mulching before overwintering is more beneficial. Generally, it is more suitable to carry out mulching when the daily average temperature drops to 3-5°C.

2. Mulching method: Before mulching, apply some nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium compound fertilizer, and clear away dead branches and fallen leaves. Mulching should be done on a windless day, laying the plastic film flat over the strawberry plants along the row direction, keeping the film surface stretched without wrinkles, and pressing soil firmly around the edges of the film. If the bed is too long, press soil horizontally at intervals to prevent the film from being blown up and torn by wind.

3. Breaking and removing the film: After the soil thaws in spring, first remove the cold-protection materials on the film and clean the film surface to allow the soil temperature to rise and encourage strawberries to sprout earlier. The method is: tear a small hole in the plastic film directly above each plant, lift the seedling above the film, and be careful when the leaves pass through the small hole so as not to damage the stems and leaves. Press soil firmly around the opening in the film around each plant so that the film fits tightly against the ground, enhancing the mulching effect.

4. Removing waste film: After the berries are harvested, the waste film should be removed promptly. Because waste film is not easily degradable and pollutes the soil. Reziwanguli Tuerxun
