What should be noted when raising chickens in plastic greenhouses?

Precautions for raising chickens in plastic greenhouses

In recent years, more and more breeders have been raising chickens in plastic greenhouses, but plastic greenhouse chicken farming is prone to disasters in winter, causing losses. Judging from the disasters that have occurred in plastic greenhouse chicken farming in recent years, plastic greenhouses have poor resistance to unexpected disasters, and sufficient attention should be paid to disaster prevention.

Disaster characteristics

They mainly occur in the cold spells of winter and spring: during a cold spell, there are often blizzards, and the temperature drops by about 10°C. If the greenhouse is not sturdy, it can easily be destroyed by the blizzard, causing casualties. Fire: in winter and spring, heating by fire is needed inside the greenhouse. When the heating methods are inadequate and people are off guard, fires are likely to occur. Since most greenhouse-building materials are flammable, they ignite at the slightest spark and spread rapidly, affecting the whole greenhouse within a short time. There is no fireproof material between two greenhouses, so adjacent greenhouses are very likely to be implicated and damaged.

Preventive measures

1. Be highly vigilant against unexpected disasters. In particular, prevention of cold spell disasters must be carried out consistently without letup, since they occur frequently in winter and spring.

2. Build sturdy greenhouses. From the very start of design, the focus should be on resisting strong winds and major disasters. The standard for building a greenhouse is that its sturdiness is sufficient to resist attacks from winds of force 10 or above.

3. Listening to weather forecasts and promptly learning about cold spell information should be made an important part of daily work, so that preventive measures can be taken before the cold spell arrives.

4. If a stove is used for heating inside the greenhouse, both the stove and the chimney must be kept away from the plastic; stacking flammable materials such as straw is strictly prohibited inside the greenhouse; prepare sufficient firefighting equipment and install fire hydrants that can be put into use at any time.

5. Outside the greenhouse, ordinary chicken houses of a corresponding number should be built and equipped with necessary disaster prevention and resistance equipment, so as to be ready for transferring and rescuing affected chicken flocks when the greenhouse is hit by disaster.

Points to note when controlling temperature in winter broiler farming

1. How to use a thermometer

Choose an intact thermometer that has been calibrated and hang it on the north wall of the chicken house, away from direct sunlight and away from the stove, with the lower end of the thermometer slightly higher than the chickens' backs. Observe the reading in a timely manner and adjust as soon as possible if the standard temperature is not reached. This is especially important for new breeders raising chicks in winter, who lack experience and mainly rely on thermometers to control temperature.

2. Judge the room temperature by observing the chickens

Experienced veteran breeders can regulate temperature just by looking at the distribution of the flock. For example, if the chickens are evenly distributed across the entire netted floor in a "starry sky" pattern, stretching their legs and necks when resting, very comfortable, it indicates the temperature is suitable; if the flock stays away from the heat source and clusters along the north and south walls, it indicates the temperature is relatively high, and if they are panting with open beaks, it means the temperature is too high; if the flock stays near the heat source, huddles together, and makes chirping squeaks, it indicates the temperature is too low; if most are distributed normally but there are no chickens on certain parts of the netted floor, it indicates drafts, so check for leaks and block them tightly in time. Note: before introducing chickens, be sure to overhaul the chicken house and heating equipment, etc. In addition, do not blindly neglect ventilation in order to keep warm; the relationship between the two must be handled well.

Nine misunderstandings that must be corrected in poultry medication

Veterinary drugs are medicines for preventing, diagnosing and treating diseases of livestock and poultry. Incorrect medication and abuse of drugs can cause great economic losses. The author has come into contact with many poultry farmers and found that they have various misunderstandings about the use of veterinary drugs, which increases farming costs, affects efficacy, and directly affects economic benefits.
