2016 Tainan Hutoupi Golden Rain Golden Shower Tree Season

The 2016 Hutoupi Romantic Golden Rain Golden Shower Tree Season will officially open on May 29 and run until June 12, lasting 15 days.

Since the Hutoupi Golden Rain Golden Shower Tree Season event was first held in the 96th year of the Republic of China, this year marks the ninth edition. Over the years, under the vigorous promotion of the Tainan City Government Tourism Bureau, it has gained nationwide recognition as a flower-viewing destination. This series of events combines local characteristics and is divided into eight static and dynamic activities for viewing and experiencing, including cricket fighting competitions, canoe experiences, photography contests, concert performances, DIY lessons on making pickled bamboo shoot strips and pineapple jam, on-site DIY lessons on resin clay crafts, a green agricultural specialty products market, and exhibitions of artworks and paintings, among other activities suitable for all ages. It is hoped that this will bring a new wave of tourist crowds and drive the development of local industries.

The Golden Shower Tree (Cassia fistula) is native to the region of India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. In Taiwan, its blooming season is from May to June. Its distinctive feature is its cascading clusters of flowers, with bright and elegantly beautiful yellow blossoms. When a gentle breeze blows, the petals fall in profusion, creating a romantic scene like a shower of golden rain. During the event, in response to energy-saving, carbon-reduction and green leisure policies, admission tickets on weekdays, solar boat rides and camping site fees are all available at half price with the event DM.
