Recently many people have mentioned the water lily, and their desire to grow it is especially obvious, but they are also very afraid of not being able to keep it alive. In fact, as long as you follow the methods, you need not worry about this problem. This plant is now grown in many places, so anyone who is tempted but struggling with how to grow it can try the methods below; as long as you follow these few approaches, there will definitely be no problems.

1. Soil

It has specific requirements for soil, which means ordinary dirt cannot satisfy it. The best soil is one containing plenty of humus, and we need clay loam, and of course it must also be fertile. This soil actually matters a great deal, because relatively sticky soil will affect the growth and swelling of the rhizome, while relatively loose soil easily causes it to be damaged by wind and causes problems with the roots. So the best choice is to use soil from a pond, or a mixture of garden soil, loess and sandy soil. In fact, the soil it needs is on the alkaline side, so we generally keep it at 6.5 to 7.5.

2. Light

The light it likes is the strong kind, and we need to let it stay under light for seven or eight hours every day, which benefits it greatly. For example, it can make its flower buds increase in number, and the flowering period will also become longer. Because of its light-loving nature, we must never let it stay in shade all the time. If you want to place it indoors, it also cannot be kept there too long; the next-best option is to grow it on a balcony. In addition, we must not let it be scorched by the blazing sun at noon.

3. Temperature

This factor cannot be treated casually, because it is very strict about it. Its sprouting temperature is between 8 and 10 degrees, while the temperature for rhizome growth is 14 degrees. As for growth, its temperature requirement is between 25 and 30. In addition, we should know one thing: on days that alternate between sunny and rainy, it grows even faster.

4. Fertilizing

This is an essential step. Generally, the amount of base fertilizer we give it depends on the size of the pot. One month after planting it, we need to apply liquid fertilizer to it; in addition, after it grows leaves and sends out shoots, we also need to give it a top dressing, and the number of times needs to reach one or two. When the flowers are in full bloom, we need to apply superphosphate to it every week.

5. Water

In summer we need to add water to it every day, and the quality of the water must be guaranteed. In autumn and winter, the amount of water added does not need to be too much.
