Principles of formulating domestic rabbit diets

1. Pay attention to feed palatability. The palatability of feed directly affects the feed intake of domestic rabbits. Feed with good palatability is favored by domestic rabbits, which can improve the feeding effect.

2. Conform to digestive physiological characteristics. Domestic rabbits are monogastric herbivores, so the diet should be based mainly on roughage, with concentrate as a supplement. At the same time, the feed intake of domestic rabbits should also be considered, and the volume should not be too large; otherwise, even if the diet is nutritionally complete, the nutrient concentration is too low to meet the domestic rabbit's requirements for various nutrients.

3. Make full use of local resources. The feed selected for diet formulation should, according to the conditions, make full use of economical, nutritious and low-cost feed resources to reduce costs.

4. Feed varieties should be diversified. Different types of feed differ greatly in nutritional composition. Using a combination of multiple feeds is beneficial to the complementary effect of nutrients. Compound feed should generally be made by combining more than 4~5 different raw materials.

5. The quality of the selected feed should be good. Domestic rabbits are extremely sensitive to mold, and all kinds of moldy and deteriorated feed must be strictly prohibited in compound feed to avoid poisoning. The formulated diet should remain relatively stable and should not change too much or too quickly. If replacement is necessary, it should also be carried out gradually so that the rabbits have an adaptation process.
