How to raise rabbits well? Master these breeding tips

There are tricks to raising rabbits well

1. Self-breeding and self-rearing

By inducing estrus or controlling the mating time, breeding rabbits are made to come into heat, mate and reproduce in a concentrated manner, so as to achieve all-in-all-out for commercial rabbits. After each batch of commercial rabbits is sent to market and before they are placed in cages, the rabbit house, utensils and cages should be thoroughly disinfected. This can both prevent the possibility of introducing pathogens with commercial rabbits and help with disease prevention.

2. Standardized introduction of breeding stock

When introducing breeding rabbits from outside the farm, healthy breeding rabbits should be introduced from large-scale breeding rabbit farms in non-epidemic areas. During the introduction process, the procedures and norms stipulated in the "Animal Epidemic Prevention Law of the People's Republic of China" and the "Measures for the Administration of Animal Quarantine" should be strictly followed for lawful introduction and isolation observation, to prevent the introduction of breeding rabbits that are diseased or carry certain pathogens.

3. Personnel management

All personnel entering the rabbit house or rabbit farm should undergo strict disinfection and change into disinfected outer clothing and rubber boots, and wear sanitary hats. Staff should not suffer from zoonoses. During work, they should have clear divisions of labor and should not move between posts. In particular, breeding rabbit staff and commercial rabbit staff must not have contact with each other or move between posts.

4. Rearing methods

Cage rearing is the main rearing method. Does about to give birth should await and give birth in kindling boxes, and newborn rabbits should be raised in kindling boxes. Young rabbits can be raised loose in places with suitable temperature and humidity, and after 1 month of age they should be placed in cages. Does and bucks must never be raised together, and the rearing cages should be far apart so that they cannot smell each other.

5. Feeding management

Clean the rabbit house, water troughs and feed troughs every day to remove residual feed left in the feed troughs, dirt on the water troughs, and manure stuck to the cages. While cleaning, carefully inspect the water troughs, feed troughs and cages, and repair any damage or factors harmful to rabbit health in a timely manner. The removed manure and contaminated items should be treated harmlessly.

6. Strengthen disinfection

At the entrance of the rabbit house, there should be a disinfection mat soaked with disinfectant or a disinfection pool containing disinfectant. Spray disinfection with rabbits present should be carried out more than 3 times per week. Before each disinfection, first remove dirt on the water troughs and cages as well as residue in the feed troughs.

7. Feed nutrition

Formulate corresponding scientific and reasonable feed formulas according to the nutritional needs of rabbits at different ages. The feed should contain abundant protein, energy, vitamins, minerals and trace elements to meet the physiological, growth and production needs of the corresponding types of rabbits.

8. Drinking water supply

Drinking water should be clean and sufficient, and the water quality should meet human drinking water standards. Water should be provided more than 3 times per day, and not too much should be added each time to prevent contamination and deterioration during drinking.

9. Reduce stress

Changing the feed formula (rabbits at different physiological stages need different nutrition, so the feed formulas for rabbits at different physiological stages are different) or vaccination will bring more or less stress responses to rabbits. To reduce the negative effects of stress responses, an appropriate amount of Vc should be added to the drinking water when changing feed or vaccinating.

10. Temperature and humidity

In winter, on the basis of doing a good job in warming and keeping warm, ventilation and air exchange should be strengthened. In summer, on the basis of doing a good job in cooling and preventing heatstroke, moisture prevention and dehumidification should be carried out, so that the temperature inside the rabbit house is kept between 15-25°C and the humidity is kept between 60%-70%.

11. Disease prevention

Prevent rabbit plague, rabbit Clostridium welchii disease, rabbit coccidiosis, rabbit Pasteurella, rabbit colibacillosis, rabbit paratyphoid, rabbit Bordetella disease, rabbit mange and other diseases through immunization or medication. In particular, for rabbit plague, 1 ml per rabbit of rabbit plague vaccine should be injected 7 d before weaning.

12. Prevent rats, dogs, cats and birds

The rabbit house should have specific measures to prevent the entry of rats, dogs, cats and birds, because these animals entering the rabbit house can easily injure or prey on adult or young rabbits or bring pathogenic microorganisms. These preventive measures are the foundation and prerequisite for raising rabbits well, so their preventive structure should be considered from the time the rabbit house is built.

13. Observe carefully

Rabbits should be carefully observed daily. Diseased rabbits or abnormal rabbits found should be isolated and treated in a timely manner. Carcasses of dead rabbits, secretions and excretions of diseased rabbits, and contaminated items should be destroyed or treated harmlessly in accordance with the provisions of GB-16548. Wurijilitu
