How to achieve post-autumn regrowth of greenhouse peppers
1. Prune at the right time and to the right extent. When pruning, it is advisable to cut off the branches and leaves above the three-fork node as well as weak, diseased branches and leaves, but be careful not to over-prune, so as to avoid reducing the fruit-setting rate. The pruning time should be chosen at 8 to 9 a.m. on a sunny day, to ensure the wounds can heal the same day and reduce invasion by pathogens.
2. Strengthen cultivation management. Within half a month after pruning, it is a critical period for the growth and development of new branches, new leaves and flower buds, so water and fertilizer management must be done promptly. Generally, apply 3000 to 4000 kg of human and animal manure, 25 to 30 kg of cake fertilizer, and 12 to 13 kg of compound fertilizer per mu (or 10 kg of urea). If drought occurs after application, water promptly and earth up around the roots. Within one week after pruning, spray plant growth tonic once to promote rapid growth of new branches. After pruning, because of sufficient fertilizer, many new branches grow again, so pruning should be carried out again at the right time.
3. Cover with film promptly to keep warm. Regenerated peppers begin to set fruit around mid-September and enter the full fruit-bearing period in October. After "Cold Dew," temperatures gradually drop, so in addition to timely harvesting for market, a plastic greenhouse should be covered in good time before frost to raise the temperature. Starting in early November, small arch sheds should be set up inside the greenhouse for cold protection and insulation. If red peppers are to be harvested before the Spring Festival, then starting in mid-November, straw curtains should be added at night for insulation, and where conditions allow, antifreeze can be sprayed on the leaves.
4. Prevent pests and treat diseases promptly. The main pests of regenerated peppers include cotton bollworm, tobacco budworm, aphids, etc., and they can be sprayed with 700-fold Ya Qing Ling solution. After pruning, because there are many wounds, it is easy for viral diseases to infect the plants, so spray with 500-fold virus A solution or Zhi Bing Ling plus photosynthetic micro-fertilizer, spraying once every 7 days.
