Rapid Fattening Technology for Meat Sheep:

I. Docking Lambs can be docked at 2-21 days of age, but 2-7 days of age is suitable. It is best done on a sunny morning. There are two methods: first, rubber band docking, using a rubber band with good elasticity, placed between the 2nd and 3rd tail vertebrae of the lamb, so that the lower part of the tail receives no nutrients and atrophies, and after 10 days it falls off on its own. Second, quick knife docking. First tie the base of the tail with a thin rope to cut off blood circulation, then use a sharp knife to cut 4-5 cm from the tail, bandage it with gauze, and that afternoon the tie rope can be untied, and it heals after 5-7 days. Docking can accelerate the growth of meat sheep, improve meat quality, and reduce mutton odor.

II. Castration This is carried out at the same time as docking, and can use the surgical method or the rubber band method. The commonly used one is the rubber band method: push the testicles of male lambs within 7 days of age into the scrotum, and tightly bind the spermatic cord area together with the scrotum using a rubber band. After 20-30 days, the scrotum and testicles will dry up and fall off naturally.

III. Barn Feeding First deworm. For meat sheep, orally administer 5-10 mg of deworming net per kg of body weight, given in 1 dose; for injection, inject 5-10 mg per kg of body weight subcutaneously or intramuscularly once. Use more concentrate appropriately. Formula: cornmeal 21.5%, grass meal 21.5%, soybean cake 21.5%, corn kernels 17%, peanut cake 10.3%, wheat bran 6.9%, salt 0.7%, urea 0.3%, additives 0.3%, mix well and feed. This method is mainly suitable for areas with a serious shortage of forage grass.

IV. Supplementary Feeding Graze during the day and provide supplementary feeding once in the evening. Feed formula: cornmeal 26%, bran 7%, cottonseed cake 7%, distillers grains (dry) 48%, grass meal 10%, salt 1%, urea 0.6%, additives 0.4%. After mixing evenly, feed once each evening mixed with grass, at 300 grams per animal. This method is suitable for areas with a shortage of forage grass.
