How to make pigs reach market weight earlier in autumn

Autumn is the best season for pigs to put on fat, but if feeding management and disease prevention and control are not done well, not only will the pigs not fatten up and reach market weight earlier, but disease outbreaks may also occur, causing heavy losses. So how can pigs be fattened to reach market weight earlier?

????1. Deworming with full herd coverage

In autumn, while doing a good job of cleaning, sanitation and disinfection of the pig herd and inside and outside the pig house, monitor the infection status of parasites through regular fecal examinations and necropsies, and use disinfectants that effectively kill coccidian oocysts. At present, avermectin is the main drug for killing parasites, mainly available in powder, tablet and injection forms. Choose the right time to carry out deworming with full herd coverage.

Sows are dewormed once 14 to 21 days before farrowing. Sows are treated once 14 days before mating, and boars once each in spring and autumn. For finishing pigs, the most economical method is to deworm once at 35 to 40 days of age, then about once every 2 months until they reach market weight. In addition, green feed contains many kinds of parasite eggs, such as liver flukes, roundworms and other nematodes, so it should be washed clean before feeding.

????2. Feed combination and feeding

Concentrate, roughage and green feed should be reasonably combined. Concentrated feed and roughage should be processed and crushed to facilitate the pigs' digestion and absorption. Whether using wet feeding with raw feed, or mixing the mixed feed with chopped green feed and letting the pigs eat freely, the moisture content of the prepared feed should not be too high. Piglets can be given a 0.1% potassium permanganate solution to prevent piglet white scour. Pigs fed dry feed should be supplied with enough clean drinking water; in autumn the drinking water amount is 4 times that of the dry feed.

Green feed must be combined with 40% concentrate, and 10% glutinous rice bran can also be added to the feed. When feeding, generally feed the concentrate first, then the green feed, 4 times a day, and it is best if each feeding is finished within half an hour. When many farmers feed pigs with pelleted feed, they still do the same as with powdered feed, first adding water to mix it into a porridge, and some even mix the feed with boiling water or cook it in a pot, which not only fails to reflect the advantages of pelleted feed, but also destroys the nutrition of the pelleted feed.

3. Combining sweet potato with radish

Sweet potato is a high-energy feed, and it should be scientifically mixed and combined with corn, wheat bran, rice bran, fish meal, bone meal, additives and other feeds with higher protein, calcium and phosphorus content, so as to ensure balanced feed nutrition. In addition, the proportion of sweet potato in the whole feed should not exceed 50%, and sweet potato should certainly not be fed alone, to prevent nutritional imbalance. Do not feed it raw; it is best to chop sweet potato and radish, which can promote digestion, at a ratio of 2:1, cook them until soft and thoroughly stewed, let them cool until not too hot to the touch, then mix in an appropriate amount of dry yeast and feed. Note that cooked sweet potato should not be stored in the pot for too long, to prevent souring and spoilage. As for the proportion of sweet potato in the feed, for piglets it generally should not exceed 30%.

????4. Stocking feed in time

Peanut vines, soybean straw, tuberous roots of potato crops, bean pods and stems, etc. can be sun-dried, crushed and stored to feed pigs. Green grass and green vegetables can be fermented or soaked into pickles for feeding. The specific method is: wash clean and cut short the grass, vegetables, melons, tree leaves, etc., put them into a vat, press them down layer by layer, and when the vat is 80% full, cover it well with a straw mat and press it down with stones, but do not add water. After a few days, when the feed sinks, fill the vat with water.

To isolate it from air, and after fermenting for another 1 day, it can be taken out to feed pigs. If the top of the vat mouth is tightly covered with plastic film and tied tightly and sealed all around, it can be stored for a long time without spoiling, and it can also be sun-dried or oven-dried for storage. It should be noted that rapeseed cake that has not been detoxified should not exceed 10% of the daily ration; bean feed should be cooked before feeding to facilitate protein absorption; the feeding amount should go from small to large, so that the pigs gradually adapt.
