How to properly care for and manage a lotus after it blooms
1. Specific period
The blooming period of this plant is concentrated from July to September. Therefore, after September comes the period after it has bloomed.
2. Specific methods
(1) Regarding fertilizing: after the plant has bloomed, it has certainly consumed a lot of nutrients. To ensure enough nutrition for subsequent growth and fruiting, we need to supplement a little artificially. Generally, fertilizers rich in P (phosphorus) and K (potassium) can be applied.
(2) Regarding fruiting: after the lotus has bloomed, it has mostly already been pollinated and will soon form the lotus seed pod. In most cases, the lotus root starts growing around that time. So during this period, the lotus stems must never be allowed to fill with water. Otherwise, the lotus root may rot.
(3) Regarding temperature: we have already mentioned the specific period after blooming above. So during this period, the temperature will gradually drop, and winter will soon arrive. Therefore, we can carry out some cold-protection measures in advance to help it safely get through the low-temperature period. For example, if it is potted, it can be placed indoors. If not, it can be buried below the frozen soil layer.
(4) Regarding pests and diseases: after the plant has bloomed, it may suffer from pests and diseases, and at this time we need to pay attention. If related symptoms are found, deal with them promptly to avoid causing major damage.
