Key Points and Application Methods for Promoting the Double-Late Technology in Wheat
The so-called "double-late" refers to the timely late harvest of summer crops and the timely late sowing of winter wheat. As global climate warming shifts the high-temperature period later, new issues have been raised for the reform and adjustment of China's cropping system. After several years of research, it has been found that the timely late harvest of summer crops and the timely late sowing of winter wheat represent the direction for reforming our cropping system.
1. Timely late harvest of summer crops.
Taking summer maize as an example, a timely late harvest can improve the utilization of light and heat resources and increase grain weight, making it an effective measure for raising per-unit yield. Practice has shown that for summer maize, each day of delayed harvest increases income by about 10 kg per mu; a one-week delay in harvest can increase yield by 40-50 kg. Therefore, it is advocated not to harvest maize in September, but to rush the harvest and sowing once October begins. The same applies to cotton: a timely late harvest can increase the proportion of pre-frost bolls and is one of the effective measures for achieving high cotton yields.
?2. Timely late sowing of winter wheat.
Based on the actual situation in recent years, timely late sowing of winter wheat is conducive to steady growth before winter and safe overwintering. As the saying goes: "Wheat cannot flourish twice," and "Wheat fears the 'big ears.'" This is exactly the reasoning. It can thus be seen that the promotion of the "double-late" technology is a reform of the agricultural farming system, and it will surely be applied as a model technology for autumn harvest and autumn sowing.
