Key Technical Points for Using Urea in Beef Cattle Diets
1. Urea is not suitable for calves under 3 months of age.
2. The amount of urea must not exceed 1% of the diet's dry matter, that is, feed 20-30 grams per 100 kg of body weight.
3. Mix urea evenly with concentrated feed before feeding. Never mix unevenly, as individual cattle may consume too much and become poisoned.
4. When starting to feed feed containing urea, the amount of urea should be increased gradually. An adaptation period of at least 10 days is required before reaching the designed feeding amount. Urea must not be fed in one large concentrated dose; it should be divided into several portions and fed evenly.
5. When feeding urea, the diet should contain suitable amounts of corn, bran, and other substances high in starch, and supplementary additive products such as cobalt, sulfur, and sodium should be provided. However, never feed raw soybean cake or raw soybean materials together with urea.
