Feeding and Management of Fattening Sheep

1. Feeding. Choose pastures with high grass yield and excellent grass quality for grazing fattening. Grazing time should be 4 to 6 hours per day in winter and spring, and 10 to 12 hours in summer and autumn, ensuring the sheep fill their stomachs 3 times a day; during the dry grass season or when grazing land is limited, ammoniated straw, silage, micro-storage feed, high-quality green hay, root and tuber feed, processing by-products and concentrate feed can be used for house-feeding fattening of goats; adopt a combination of semi-house-feeding, semi-grazing, and grazing plus supplementary feeding for fattening.

2. Management. Before fattening, sort the flock and deworm, and castrate rams; adopt a winter-sunny and summer-shady grazing approach, choosing shady places in summer and autumn, and sunny warm places in winter and spring for grazing. At the same time, pay attention to drinking water and salt supplementation, prevent parasite infection, and avoid grazing on grass wet with cold dew or frost; when feeding ammoniated feed and silage, control the amount carefully to prevent ammonia poisoning and acidosis. Aerate ammoniated feed for two to three days before feeding, and feed only after there is no pungent ammonia smell.
