Four practical measures to prevent miscarriage in pregnant ewes
I. Separate group rearing
Pregnant ewes should be kept separately from lambs, rams, and fattening sheep, and raised on their own, so that different feeding and management methods can be applied in a targeted way at different stages of fetal development, ensuring normal fetal development. Ewes in late pregnancy in particular should be raised separately.
II. Strengthen nutrition
To help ewes gain condition and maintain pregnancy, ewes during pregnancy should be supplied with good-quality, easily digestible forage, and ewes that are individually thin and weak should be given enough concentrate feed. Pregnant ewes must not be fed moldy, spoiled, or frozen forage, and must not drink frozen water.
III. Appropriately increase exercise
Reasonable exercise can enhance the resistance of ewes and help maintain pregnancy; at the same time, appropriate exercise also lays the foundation for smooth delivery of the fetus in the future and for ensuring the safety of both mother and young.
IV. Prevent disease
Disease in pregnant ewes can easily cause miscarriage, so disease prevention and control work should be done well during the non-pregnant period of ewes, such as vaccination and deworming. During pregnancy, attention should be paid to regularly disinfecting the pens, and at the same time, protection against cold and heat, prevention of crowding, and avoidance of feeding toxic feed, etc., should be carried out to eliminate the triggers of disease.
