Typhoon Nepartak has caused agricultural disaster losses in Pingtung. According to Pingtung County Government statistics on agricultural losses as of the 8th, the damaged crop area is about 372 hectares, with losses amounting to about 19.88 million yuan. Among the damaged crops, bananas were the most seriously affected at about 205 hectares, followed by papayas at about 65 hectares and lemons at about 3 hectares. As for the fishery and livestock industries, no losses have been reported so far.
Yao Chih-wang, director of the Pingtung County Department of Agriculture, said that Typhoon Nepartak brought strong winds and heavy rain, causing some papaya and banana plants currently being harvested to topple, melons, fruits and leafy vegetables to be waterlogged, and agricultural facilities to be damaged.
Yao Chih-wang said that the current damage situation is based on preliminary statistics. The county government has asked all township offices to investigate and report the disaster situation as soon as possible. If the natural disaster relief standards are met, they will request subsidies from the Council of Agriculture to reduce farmers' losses.
The Pingtung County Government will continue to monitor the agricultural loss situation and has asked township and town offices to pay attention to disaster losses in their jurisdictions at all times and report them immediately. If farmers suffer agricultural disasters, they can also take the initiative to contact their township or town office.
According to an analysis by the Pingtung City Fruit and Vegetable Market, on the 8th, the weather was affected by Typhoon Nepartak, with continuous wind and rain, making vegetable harvesting difficult and reducing vegetable supply. Because most consignees did not enter the market to trade, purchasing power weakened, consumer demand declined, trading conditions were poor, and vegetable prices of all kinds showed a trend of fewer rises and more falls.
