What are the characteristics of the moss rose? An introduction to its morphological features and growth habits
1. Flowers
It can be seen in many places in China. It is worth mentioning that its flowers come in many colors, so those who love this plant can try to collect all its colors and plant them together. According to statistics, it has nine colors in total, of which there are five shades of red, two shades of yellow, and one each of white and cyan. In addition, the origin of its name may be closely related to its flowers, because it blooms when illuminated by sunlight and closes in the morning and evening. The scent of this flower is not strong, but it still has a faint fragrance. Its blooming period is particularly long, generally blooming between May and November. Of course, if it is in Lingnan, that is different - there its blooming period is year-round.
2. Leaves
It mainly has two types, and the great similarity between the two is that their branches are relatively lush. One is called the large-flowered purslane (Portulaca grandiflora); its leaves are also very dense, and the leaf shape is a thin cylinder, sometimes curved, with an unimpressive length of only one or two cm. In addition, it has no hairs. The other is called the hairy purslane (Portulaca pilosa). Its leaves are alternate, and the leaf shape comes in two forms: one is cylindrical and linear, and the other looks like brick or stone, appearing as a narrow needle shape. The former can also be used medicinally, for detoxification and reducing swelling, while the latter's leaves can be placed on wounds to treat cuts.
3. Seeds
Its seeds also have their own characteristics, though the seeds of the two different varieties do not look the same. The former's are relatively small and numerous, shaped like a round kidney, with many colors including lead gray, grayish brown, and grayish black, and its surface has a pearly luster. The latter's seeds are also not large, with few colors, only dark brown. The two share one thing in common: their surfaces have small tubercles.
4. Propagation
Its propagation is mainly of two kinds: one is sowing, and the other is cuttings. In addition, it has extremely strong adaptability to soil - even in particularly barren places it can grow well. Of course, it also has an environment it particularly loves, which is sandy soil, provided of course that its drainage function is relatively good.
