Carrot Field Management Techniques

1. Timely thinning: Carry out the first thinning when there are two or three true leaves, with a plant spacing of 3 cm, and perform shallow inter-row cultivation to promote seedling growth. Carry out the second thinning when the seedlings have four or five true leaves, maintaining a plant spacing of 10-17 cm, and perform one inter-row cultivation and weeding. Early-maturing varieties and small fleshy-root varieties should be planted somewhat densely.

2. Timely topdressing: Carry out the first topdressing when the seedlings have three or four true leaves, applying 2-4 kg of ammonium sulfate, 3-3.5 kg of superphosphate, and 1.5-2 kg of potassium fertilizer per 667 sq m. Carry out the second topdressing 20-25 days after the first topdressing, applying 7 kg of ammonium sulfate, 3-3.5 kg of superphosphate, and 3-3.5 kg of potassium chloride per 667 sq m.

3. Moderate watering: Keep the soil moist throughout the entire carrot growing period to facilitate plant growth and fleshy root formation. During summer and autumn droughts, especially when the fleshy roots are swelling, appropriately increase watering to obtain high quality and high yield. If the water supply is insufficient, the roots will be thin, small, and rough; if the water supply is uneven, the fleshy roots are prone to splitting. Wu Ming
