As people's living standards improve, many families have bought new homes. To move in as soon as possible, most people favor so-called folk remedies and fall into misunderstandings, and in the end, because of improper handling, they suffer poisoning from formaldehyde and other harmful gases. Although some folk remedies make a little sense, not all folk remedies are as effective as rumored, and we still need to look for methods with a scientific basis. After all, formaldehyde pollution is very harmful to the human body. It may cause symptoms such as headache, dizziness, chest tightness and coughing, and in severe cases it leads to malignant changes in the respiratory system, immune system and blood system. It also has carcinogenic and cancer-promoting effects.

So in the face of the harm of formaldehyde pollution, there are 3 common effective and safe methods for removing formaldehyde, but they must be used in combination for the best effect.

Method 1: Ventilation.

Formaldehyde comes from various indoor decoration and renovation materials. As long as you open the windows and let wind in, the formaldehyde released indoors can be diluted in time, so you should ventilate as much as possible in daily life. However, at night or on rainy days, when we close the windows, the formaldehyde in the home will accumulate. If the wind is very weak, the formaldehyde removal effect will also be greatly reduced, so in daily life you still need to combine it with other methods to treat formaldehyde.

Method 2. Green plants.

Green plants have a certain ability to absorb formaldehyde, and large plants can look attractive while also doing a good job of removing formaldehyde, killing two birds with one stone. However, not all green plants can absorb formaldehyde. Plants such as spider plant, aloe, pothos, snake plant and agave can all absorb a certain amount of formaldehyde. Many formaldehyde removal products are developed from stock solutions extracted from plants such as spider plant. However, the absorption capacity of plants is limited and can only play a supporting role.

Method 3. Activated carbon.

Activated carbon is a very common formaldehyde removal material. It is relatively cheap, is used in large amounts, and has a good short-term effect. However, when we use activated carbon to treat formaldehyde in a new home, we should note that it cannot decompose formaldehyde, so it easily becomes saturated. We need to replace it with new activated carbon before it becomes saturated, otherwise after saturation it will cause formaldehyde levels to rebound. From experience, it is generally recommended to replace it once every 20 to 30 days or so.
