Autumn management techniques for greenhouse colored bell peppers

Colored bell peppers are light-loving and warmth-loving vegetables of the Solanaceae family, genus Capsicum. Spring greenhouse colored bell peppers grown through the summer as a single long-season crop enter vigorous growth in autumn, and growers easily become lax in management. During the high-temperature season, this causes severe flower and fruit drop in some plants, excessive vegetative growth, and in some cases even large areas of dead plants.

At present, colored bell pepper prices have entered a high range, so growers must strengthen care. Based on high-yield demonstration experience, technical personnel remind growers to carry out the following autumn management: appropriately reduce the number of waterings, and control the amount of each drip irrigation. Colored bell peppers should not be given large amounts of water after prolonged drought; flood irrigation often causes large areas of dead plants, so it is essential neither to withhold water nor to irrigate heavily; increase high-potassium and high-calcium fertilizers, control nitrogen fertilizer, and promote the fruit to color as quickly as possible. Because the root system ages, fertilizer can be supplemented by foliar spraying; pay attention to pest and disease control, strengthen plant preservation, and appropriately apply growth regulators, but at the same time promptly remove old leaves and diseased leaves to increase ventilation and light penetration between plants; as the temperature difference between day and night increases, promptly lower and close the ventilation openings, and wait until the temperature rises and stabilizes before ventilating to remove moisture, but give priority to keeping warm.
