Field Management of Asparagus in the Year of Planting

In the year of planting, do not harvest the young spears, so that the plants form a lush aboveground part and enhance photosynthesis.

?1 Fertilization and Earthing Up

After planting, water with clear water and manure every 5-7 days, 500 kg per mu. After the young spears emerge, earth up once every 10-15 days, 3 cm each time, generally 3-4 times of earthing up, so that the crown is covered with 10-12 cm of soil. Combine earthing up with weeding, and apply compound fertilizer around the plants.

Afterwards, as the plants grow more and more vigorously, gradually increase the amount of fertilizer, applying it in furrows opened on both sides of the plants, fertilizing twice a month, with about 10 kg of high-quality compound fertilizer per mu, and cover with soil promptly after application. Every 7-10 days, spray once in the evening with 1500 times dilution of Lufengbao, or 250-300 times dilution of Junke Duke, 50-75 kg per mu, which can enhance the plants' stress resistance and disease resistance, prolong the green-keeping period of the plants, enable the roots to accumulate more nutrients, and lay a good foundation for a bumper harvest the following year.

????2 Trellising and Pruning

When asparagus first grows, the stems are relatively thin. As the plants grow, the branches and leaves become dense and lush, and they are prone to lodging. Where conditions permit, trellises and wires can be set up to prevent the plants from lodging. When the plants grow to 150 cm, top them promptly to promote branching and increase the area for photosynthesis.

Thin out branches once every half a month. When thinning, pay attention to removing thin and weak, diseased and damaged, aged, and dead stems and branches to prevent inducing diseases.

????3 Hoeing Weeds and Clearing Ditches

Hoeing weeds can keep the soil loose and breathable, which is beneficial to the development of the asparagus root system. After rain, clear the drainage ditches promptly to prevent water accumulation in the asparagus field, so that the ditches dry up once the rain stops.
