How to promptly manage fertilization and watering after pear harvest
After a growing season of nutrient consumption, the pear tree has gradually weakened following fruit harvest and entered an important period of nutrient accumulation. To ensure the pear tree's vigor does not decline and to prevent pests and diseases from causing early leaf drop and a second round of flowering and fruiting, fertilization and watering management should keep pace after harvest to ensure normal flowering and fruiting of the pear tree the following year.
Pear trees consume a large amount of nutrients during the fruiting period, and urgently need nutrient supplementation after harvest to restore tree vigor. At the same time, the root system of pear trees enters its second growth peak from August to November, so basal fertilizer should be applied early, which not only facilitates the rapid decomposition of fertilizer but also helps new roots absorb and store nutrients. Basal fertilizer should be mainly organic fertilizer, with an appropriate amount of quick-acting nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium fertilizer added; the application rate should be determined according to tree vigor and fruit yield, and this basal fertilizer application should account for 40% of the annual fertilization amount. Generally, 1500-3000 kg of barnyard manure, human excrement and urine, poultry and livestock offal, or decomposed wheat bran, wheat straw, weeds and other organic fertilizers are applied per mu, mixed with 40-50 kg of nitrogen-phosphorus-potassium compound fertilizer.
Method: Dig a trench about 1 m from the trunk and apply the fertilizer into it; if the tree is small, the distance can be closer. The fertilization trench should be about 40 cm deep and about 30 cm wide, shallow on the inside and deep on the outside. After fertilization, mix thoroughly with the backfilled soil to avoid fertilizer accumulating and heating up to burn the roots. At the same time, foliar topdressing can be carried out. From September to October, carry out one foliar topdressing in the pear orchard, spraying a mixture of 0.1%-0.3% urea plus 0.3%-0.5% monopotassium phosphate, spraying on the leaf surface in the morning and evening after the dew has dried; never spray at noon under high humidity, so as to avoid harm.
