Taichung Welcomes the East Asian Youth Games: Zhongzheng Sports Center Upgraded

The Taichung City Government is actively building 9 civil sports centers, each with 6 major core sports facilities and each with different features. Among them, the Zhongzheng Civil Sports Center, the largest in Taichung with a wavy facade, focuses on water sports and will serve in the future as the venue for water sports competitions when Taichung City hosts the 2019 East Asian Youth Games; to make the sports center more complete and diverse, the Construction Bureau, without requesting additional budget, appropriately extended the construction period, added equipment and raised the building label rating, hoping to bring the venue's equipment up to standard in one go and better meet future trends and usage needs.

The Construction Bureau stated that the construction project of the Zhongzheng Civil Sports Center was originally scheduled for completion in August. However, in order to make the venue's smart building equipment more complete and in line with technological development trends and user needs, the city government started from the directions of information and communications, safety and disaster prevention, health and comfort, equipment energy saving, integrated wiring, system integration and facility management, adding central monitoring system equipment, including anti-theft, air conditioning, ventilation, indoor environmental quality, access control and surveillance, and energy-saving control systems; and established information network system equipment, facility management server hosts, building facility management operation platforms and databases, etc., with the aim of becoming the city's first civil sports center to obtain smart building certification.

In addition, the Zhongzheng Civil Sports Center further takes energy saving and low pollution as the basis of its green building design, effectively using solar panels and rainwater recycling to achieve energy saving and carbon reduction, and through adjusting the thickness of window glass and adding permeable gravel gradation, etc., it is further optimized in aspects such as site water retention and daily energy saving.
