Four things to avoid when storing soybean seeds
Do not store seeds when their temperature is high. Soybean seeds are rich in protein, which is prone to denaturation under high-temperature conditions. Therefore, soybean seeds must be stored at low temperatures. In particular, soybean seeds that have been dried in the sun must first be spread out to cool before they can be stored.
Do not store on wet, rainy days. Before purchasing, make scientific arrangements and check recent weather information, and seize clear, dry weather to make a rush purchase. Do not purchase and store seeds when the weather is rainy and the air is humid.
Seeds should not be piled too high. When storing soybean seeds, at a temperature below 15°C and a moisture content below 12%, the pile height should not exceed 1.5 m for bulk piles, and for bagged seeds 8 standard gunny sacks high is appropriate. If either the temperature or the moisture is above the above standards, the pile height should be lowered accordingly. Between stacks and walls, and between stack and stack, spacing should be arranged reasonably.
Do not store together with chemical fertilizers or pesticides. Storing soybean seeds should be done in a dedicated warehouse for dedicated use; chemical fertilizers, pesticides and other items must not be piled in the warehouse at the same time, so as to prevent volatile gases from entering the seed embryo and causing the loss of soybean seed vigor.
