Rubber plant: do 3 things in summer for wide, glossy green leaves and vigorous growth

The rubber plant (Ficus elastica) has thick, fleshy leaves that stay emerald green all year round and are full of gloss. It is tall and upright with high ornamental value, and it also has a strong tropical feel, making it a very effective way to dress up a home.

When caring for the rubber plant in summer, do three things well, and the rubber plant will be tall and imposing, with leaves so glossy they drip oil, wide and big!

Point one

The rubber plant likes plenty of light and a well-ventilated environment. Except in summer, it can be placed on a south-facing balcony, but from June to September the weather is fairly hot and the light is very strong, so shade is needed, otherwise the leaves will wither and turn yellow and drop off.

Point two

In summer, pruning should be done promptly. When the plant grows to 60 to 80 cm, pinch out the growing tips in good time to avoid consuming too many nutrients, so it will sprout new branches as quickly as possible, making the plant shape more attractive and raising its ornamental value.

Moreover, after each pruning, disinfect with plant ash and seal the wounds well to prevent sap loss from having an adverse effect on the plant.

Point three

When fertilizing the rubber plant in summer, be sure not to do it at noon; do it in the evening. Also, do it on a sunny day when the soil is on the dry side, burying organic fertilizer in the soil and watering the next day; the fertilizer effect will be released slowly and can make the leaves wide and thick, emerald green and glossy.
