The "2016 Huatan Township Bamboo Shoot Festival Series Activities - Jasmine Huatan, Fragrant Jade Shoots" event, organized by the Huatan Township Office of Changhua County, kicked off lively on the afternoon of the 21st at the first parking lot of the Quanguo Liyuan Grand Hotel. Changhua County Magistrate Wei Ming-ku, Huatan Township Chief Li Cheng-chi and others attended, using the event to promote seasonal local agricultural specialties, with the hope of raising the profile of Huatan's agricultural specialties, revitalizing the local industrial economy, boosting consumption, and increasing farmers' income.
Magistrate Wei Ming-ku said that Huatan is located beside the Bagua Mountain Range in Changhua, and its most famous products are bamboo shoots, white pomelo and jasmine. Of the nation's jasmine production, Huatan accounts for the largest share. Besides making jasmine tea, many other products such as cosmetics and essences have also been developed, demonstrating the diverse uses of jasmine.
Magistrate Wei Ming-ku also pointed out that the Huatan Township Office spares no effort in promoting agricultural products, which is very helpful to farmers' income. The feast at this year's Bamboo Shoot Festival is even grander in scale, and everyone is welcome to come and take part and support local agricultural specialties.
Taking local specialties - jasmine and bamboo shoots - as its theme, the Huatan Township Office held evaluation competitions for green bamboo shoots and ma bamboo shoots, as well as creative culinary competitions using bamboo shoots and jasmine, creating unique bamboo shoot and jasmine dishes and turning the high-quality agricultural products grown by farmers into exquisite bamboo shoot delicacies. In addition, fresh bamboo shoot dishes were offered on site for the public to taste free of charge. To liven up the atmosphere, the organizers also invited well-known artist Huang Shan-liang, the famous Taichung band - Ace Band, and others to perform enthusiastically. There was also a "check-in stamp collection lucky draw" activity on site, with prizes including HTC phones and folding bicycles, attracting crowds of people.
