"Taichung Gifts Are Good, Good Gifts in Taichung" Top Ten Souvenirs Vote Results Announced

The Taichung City Industrial Development and Investment Promotion Committee held the "Taichung City Top Ten Souvenirs" public on-site voting event on the 28th at the plaza in front of the city government. 145 participating vendors displayed their products and held charity sales at the venue, and the organizers even "showered cherry blossoms" at the site, letting people catch Pokemon while enjoying Taichung food. Mayor Lin Chia-lung also took part in the voting event, hosting a charity sale on site and presenting awards including the Top Ten Souvenirs and the Quality Halal Award. The event was lively and successful.

The charity sale items at this event included a large batik hanging scroll with local Taiping characteristics, 2 m high and 1 m wide, provided by "Taiping Blue," and "Jia Wei Xuan" also provided an extra-large pineapple cake weighing 100 jin. Both charity sale items each fetched a winning bid of 100,000 yuan, and together with other charity sale items from the event, the total came to 338,200 yuan. All proceeds will be donated to the Social Affairs Bureau's Social Assistance Fund special account to help children, youth and disadvantaged friends with their schooling, while the giant pineapple cake will be donated to Taichung City Deshuiyuan Residential Institution.

Mayor Lin Chia-lung said that Taichung is a city with a rich food culture and is also a livable city suited to living. The city government is also using this competition to market Taichung's food culture. In the future, Taichung will host the 2018 World Flora Exposition and the 2019 East Asian Youth Games, and it is hoped that everyone who comes to Taichung can feel the beautiful mountains, beautiful waters and delicious food, and that travelers can buy high-quality pastries.

This year's selection event presented six major categories of awards, including the Top Ten Souvenirs and the Quality Halal Award, as well as the Judges' Grand Award, the Golden Reputation Award, the Best On-Site Popularity Award and the Internet Popularity Award.
