Applying boron and zinc fertilizer after harvest is key for chestnuts
Foliar spraying. As an auxiliary measure to soil fertilization, it has advantages such as being simple and convenient, using little fertilizer, taking effect quickly, having a high utilization rate, and not being affected by the redistribution of nutrients in the tree. It is commonly applied by spraying 0.2% borax plus 0.2% zinc sulfate together with 600-fold New High-Lipid Film solution on the leaves. The time should preferably be in the morning when the dew has not yet dried, or in the evening, in humid and windless weather.
After harvesting the fruit, dig a trench 1 m long, 0.4 m wide and 0.6 m deep along the tree canopy drip line, that is, in the area where the fibrous roots are most concentrated, apply boron and zinc micro-fertilizers and other organic fertilizers, and then cover with soil. The amount of boron and zinc applied is calculated according to the size of the tree canopy, with 10-20 g each of boron and zinc per sq m. For large fruiting trees, 100 g each of borax and zinc sulfate can be applied. Applying boron and zinc fertilizer to the soil once has an obvious effect within five years.
