Methods of Use and Precautions for Livestock and Poultry Premixes

What Farmers Need to Know About Using Premixes for Livestock and Poultry

Farmers need to select premix varieties with different proportions according to different livestock and poultry species and different growth and development stages, and must never use them indiscriminately. Energy feed should be added accurately and stirred evenly.

Feed changes should be made gradually. Suddenly changing the premix will affect the feed intake and growth of livestock and poultry. Therefore, when using it, the amount of new feed should be gradually increased and the amount of old feed reduced, transitioning over 5-7 days to fully using the new premix.

Mix feed according to the recommended formula. Many farmers who use premixes often change the recommended formula at will based on experience, causing various nutritional indicators to fail to meet the growth needs of livestock and poultry at each stage.

The feeding method for premixes must be correct. Premixes should not be fed directly, nor should they be mixed with boiling water or steamed, so as to avoid destroying the nutrients.

Premixes must not be mixed for use. Do not mix one premix with other varieties of premix, so as to avoid affecting the feeding effect.

Storage time should not be too long. Once stored for a long time, the premix will decompose and deteriorate, and its color and smell will completely change. Usually, the storage period for premixes is at most 3 days in summer, and must not exceed 6 days in other seasons. They should be stored in a ventilated, dry, light-protected, and cool place to avoid moisture and deterioration causing losses.
