Why must cucumber vines be pulled out completely
When clearing cucumbers from the field, the roots must be brought out. If the roots are not removed thoroughly, it is easy to leave behind a root of trouble and create hidden risks for the spread of diseases later. Failure to remove the roots cleanly has two drawbacks:
First, it easily leaves behind pathogens. Many cucumber plants suffer from root diseases. If the root system is not pulled out thoroughly, the pathogenic bacteria will continue to remain in the soil and harm the next crop of vegetables. Therefore, when clearing cucumbers from the field, the entire root system must be pulled out. If the soil is relatively dry, lightly water once before clearing the field to moisten the soil. When necessary, dig them out to prevent fibrous roots from breaking off and remaining in the soil. In addition, before clearing the field, it is best to mark the places where diseased plants were. After clearing the field, treat the diseased planting holes in a focused way with quicklime or a medicinal solution to thoroughly eliminate the pathogens.
Second, it easily leaves root-knot nematodes from the roots in the soil. In greenhouses with root-knot nematodes, a large number of root-knot nematodes will cling to the cucumber root system. If the roots are not pulled out thoroughly, they will continue to remain in the soil and harm the next crop of vegetables. This is because clearing cucumbers from the field is a great opportunity to eliminate root-knot nematodes, and this opportunity can be used to completely bring out the root-knot nematodes attached to the root system. For this reason, when clearing cucumbers from the field, the roots must be removed cleanly and thoroughly.
