Raising foxes in autumn requires attention to vitamin supplementation
Cod liver oil is the main source of vitamin A and vitamin D. Each fox can be fed 800-1000 international units per day. When feeding, it is best to drip it into the food bowl after the meal. When liver and fresh sea fish are fed year-round, cod liver oil supplementation may not be necessary. During storage, pay attention to keeping it sealed, place it in a cool, dry, and dark place, and do not use metal containers for storage. When using cod liver oil, pay attention to the production date to prevent it from becoming ineffective after long storage. Feeding spoiled cod liver oil is prohibited.
Wheat sprouts are rich in vitamin E and contain the minerals phosphorus, calcium, manganese, and a small amount of iron. They are an indispensable feed during the fox breeding period. Soak cleaned wheat sprouts in clean water with a little table salt for 10-15 hours. After removing them, spread them flat in a water tray at a thickness of 1-2 cm, cover with burlap, and place in a dark place at 15°C-20°C. Sprinkle water twice a day to keep them clean and the wheat grains moist. After 3-4 days, they can be fed. Generally, 1 kg of wheat can produce 2 kg of sprouts. Sprouts with moldy roots or net-like white mold growth must not be fed.
Cottonseed oil is a source of vitamin E. Every 100 grams of cottonseed oil contains 200 mg of vitamin E. Refined cottonseed oil should be used when feeding foxes. Crude cottonseed oil contains toxins and is not suitable for feeding foxes.
Yeast is the main source of B vitamins. Yeast is a commonly used concentrated supplementary feed in fox raising year-round. Commonly used yeasts include baker's yeast, petroleum yeast, nucleic acid yeast, pulp yeast, and active yeast. When feeding foxes, except for medicinal yeast and feed yeast, all need to be heated to kill all live yeast cells in the yeast. Otherwise, after the yeast is consumed by foxes, it can easily cause gastrointestinal bloating or death. In addition, live yeast that is not heated also has low vitamin utilization.
