Dust Caused by the Monsoon: Chiayi County Environmental Protection Bureau Urges Operators to Strengthen Pollution Control

In autumn and winter, the climate is dry and the northeast monsoon gradually strengthens. Strong winds easily cause dust to scatter, increasing the concentration of suspended particulates in the air and affecting air quality. Therefore, the Chiayi County Environmental Protection Bureau is calling on construction site operators to implement proper control measures during excavation, land grading and other work on construction sites, so as to avoid worsening air quality and harming human health.

The Environmental Protection Bureau pointed out that in order to prevent dust generated during construction from affecting air quality, the bureau is strengthening inspections under the Construction Management Measures and on-site construction inspections for sites in a high-pollution construction phase, such as demolition projects, foundation excavation, land grading projects, construction sites and first-level river dredging projects, among others.

The Environmental Protection Bureau stated that during construction projects, the entry and exit of engineering vehicles easily causes dust to escape and roads to become polluted. It is recommended that construction projects participate in adopting and cleaning roads around the work area, maintaining a tidy environment while also suppressing dust caused by vehicles. This is of considerable help in reducing air pollution and improving the surrounding environment, and it improves the public's impression of construction sites.

The Environmental Protection Bureau calls on construction owners and contractors to routinely implement pollution control measures in accordance with the "Construction Project Air Pollution Control Facility Management Measures", for construction sites at all levels to increase the coverage ratio of exposed ground and earthworks (materials), increase the frequency of water spraying, slow down vehicle speeds, and strengthen the washing and sweeping of roads around construction sites, so as to reduce air pollution caused by construction dust and jointly maintain air quality.
