Techniques for feeding rabbits

1. Feed should be reasonably matched; do not feed a single variety.

The nutrients in a rabbit's daily ration are: 10% crude protein and 10% crude fiber, 5% fat, 2800 kcal digestible energy per kg of daily ration, and 10% amino acids. If there is no condition to feed compound feed, appropriately add concentrated feeds such as soybeans, soybean cake, wheat bran, and corn, as well as succulent feeds such as carrots.

2. Pay attention to feeding night feed.

Rabbits have a strong nocturnal feeding habit, and nighttime intake can account for more than 75% of the whole day's intake. Therefore, sufficient feed and drinking water should be provided to rabbits at night.

3. Change feed slowly.

When one kind of feed is often fed, rabbits already have a relatively strong adaptability. If the feed is suddenly changed, it is easy to cause gastrointestinal disease in rabbits. Therefore, feed replacement should be done step by step.

4. Do not feed silage.

Silage has high acidity, which will affect the growth and reproduction of microorganisms in the rabbit's cecum, reduce cellulase, and affect the rabbit's normal digestion. At the same time, silage is prone to mold and deterioration, and after rabbits eat it, it is easy to cause toxic diarrhea, or even death.

5. Do not interrupt forage.

There are many microorganisms in the rabbit's cecum that can secrete fibrolytic enzymes and have a strong ability to decompose crude fiber. However, feed stays in the rabbit's gastrointestinal tract for a relatively short time, so forage should not be interrupted, to prevent food masses from hardening and blocking the cecum and the vermiform appendix of the cecum. Each adult rabbit should be fed 0.5-1 kg of forage per day.

6. Do not feed too full.

Rabbits should be fed at fixed times and in fixed amounts. Adult rabbits should be fed 4 times a day, and young rabbits 4-6 times a day, each time feeding them to 70% to 80% full. Do not add feed too frequently or feed too full, to prevent diarrhea and bloating in rabbits.
