How to manage pear trees in autumn? Remember these three measures

Three measures for autumn management of pear trees

To ensure a high and stable yield of pear trees the following year, fruit growers should strengthen management in autumn, accumulate nutrients, enhance tree vigor, and cultivate strong trees, laying the foundation for producing high-quality pears the next year. There are three important measures for fruit growers' reference.

First, apply base fertilizer in autumn. The application time is August to September, with less nitrogen fertilizer and more potassium fertilizer. The method is to combine deep plowing of the entire orchard with the application of organic fertilizer mainly consisting of farmyard manure, applying 50-100 kg per tree, then applying about 2 kg of fruit tree compound fertilizer and 2-3 liang of borax. Water promptly after application and cover with soil.

Second, bend and thin branches. Due to last year's freeze damage, pear tree yields were generally low this year, causing excessive vegetative growth of the tree body. In autumn, branches should be bent and thinned to shape the tree form. Mainly remove water sprouts, overly dense upright branches, and crossing branches; also remove thin and weak branches, diseased and pest-infested branches, and root suckers. The position and angle of bent branches should be reasonable.

Third, prevent the "little Indian summer." Pear trees are susceptible to adverse climate effects causing early defoliation, which can easily lead to the "October little Indian summer" phenomenon, causing blooming that affects the next year's fruiting. The main measures are to pay attention to controlling pear scab, pear psylla, pear stink bug and other pests and diseases from August to September; during drought periods, pay attention to irrigation to prevent the soil from becoming too dry.
