Gardenia is a potted plant that flower lovers all quite like. Its flowers are pure white, its fragrance is fresh, its leaves stay evergreen through all four seasons, and both flowers and foliage are beautiful. Anyone who has grown gardenia knows it is not easy to care for. If you are not careful, its leaves turn yellow, and even when it grows flower buds they do not open, and they all drop off with a whoosh, which makes you both heartbroken and helpless. It is fair to say that in order to grow it well, people exhaust their hearts and strength. Actually, as long as you understand the habits of gardenia, it is not hard to grow it well. Today I will share a small method that will make your gardenia burst into bloom. Anyway, after using it, mine once opened more than 80 flowers, and it was simply gorgeous!

By the time summer comes, flower lovers will surely eat some watermelon and enjoy the air conditioning, making life comfortable and pleasant. But when you eat watermelon, flower lovers, do not throw away the watermelon rind. Your gardenia especially loves it, so soak it and give your plant some too!

The principle is: gardenia likes acidic soil, and keeping the soil acidic is the foundation for growing gardenia well. Watermelon rind contains glucose, malic acid, goji alkali, fructose, sucrase, proteogenic amino acids, watermelon amino acids, lycopene and rich vitamin C, and after soaking in water it becomes a kind of acidic water, especially suitable for potted plants that like acidic soil, such as gardenia, jasmine, camellia and other potted plants.

The method is as follows:

Collect watermelon rind, remove the green skin and red flesh, chop it up, and soak it in clean water (here it is best to use purified water or boiled water). After soaking for about 10 hours, it becomes acidic water that gardenia especially loves to drink. You can directly use it to water gardenia. It is recommended to use it once every 7-10 days. It will make your gardenia branches and leaves lush, with large flowers, and especially fragrant.

Flower lovers, look at the gardenia above. Is it not beautiful? Go ahead and grow one. Next, let us continue. With acidic soil, gardenia has the foundation for growth. Let us also take a look at the other care aspects!

1. Light

Gardenia likes semi-shade and fears direct strong light, requiring about 50% shade density. If exposed to the sun, the leaves will turn yellow, whiten and even fall off, so in summer it must be kept in a shaded place or a place with scattered light.

2. Potting soil

For gardenia potting soil, you can use mountain soil, or mix 4 parts leaf mold (peat), 4 parts vegetable garden soil and 2 parts river sand. It is best if the plant can be potted with soil. In the early stage after potting, keep the potting soil moist, pay attention to shading, do not fertilize for the time being, and let it recover for 10-15 days. Then gradually place it in a place with sufficient sunlight

3. Fertilizer and water

Proper fertilizer is what ensures gardenia blooms all year round. During the growing period, fertilizer needs to be supplemented reasonably. In early spring, supplement nitrogen fertilizer to promote plant growth. Starting in April, supplement phosphorus and potassium fertilizer to promote flower bud formation and blooming. After flowering, continue supplementing phosphorus and potassium fertilizer.

4. Pruning

For gardenia to have ventilation and light penetration and to spread nutrients, pay attention to timely pruning. When pruning, select and keep three main branches according to the tree shape, and remove other branches sprouting from root suckers at any time. After gardenia flowers fade, shorten the branches in time to encourage new branches to sprout.
