Carrot seeds germinate slowly? Master these germination techniques for fast, even sprouting
Because carrot seeds have a layer of bristles attached to their surface, sowing them by conventional methods results in slow and uneven emergence. After years of practice, soaking the seeds in hydrogen peroxide solution before sowing can effectively increase the germination rate of carrot seeds.
Seed soaking time
??? Place the prepared 25% hydrogen peroxide solution in a container, pour in the carrot seeds whose bristles have been rubbed off, stirring with a wooden stick while pouring, and soak for 30 to 50 minutes.
Seed sprouting After soaking, remove the seeds from the hydrogen peroxide solution, then immediately rinse with clean water 3 to 4 times, filtering the water while rinsing. After filtering, place them in a container and cover with a wet cloth to sprout. If the seeds are moderately mature and plump, generally 85% or more of the seeds will germinate within 7 to 8 days, and full emergence will occur 5 days after sowing.
Precautions
??? First, before soaking the seeds, sun the seeds on a sunny day. Second, use a chlorothalonil solution to sterilize the seeds that have already been soaked and sprouted. Third, seeds that have been soaked, sprouted and sterilized should be sown promptly, and the soil is required to be moist. Fourth, after sowing, cover with 0.5 to 1 cm of soil and press lightly, then use a covering material to shade from the sun, and remove the covering material when 10% to 15% of the seedlings have emerged.
