Tips for Sweeter Melons and Fruits: Scientific Management Makes Fruit Sweeter
Widen the Day-Night Temperature Difference
A larger day-night temperature difference helps accumulate photosynthetic products (sugars). During the fruiting period of melons, the day-night temperature difference should be widened as much as possible. Generally, the daytime temperature inside the greenhouse should be kept at 30°C to 35°C, the nighttime temperature at 13°C to 14°C, and the day-night temperature difference at 16°C to 18°C.
Apply Less Chemical Fertilizer, Apply More Organic Fertilizer
Using organic fertilizer as the main source and applying little or no chemical fertilizer is another effective measure to increase the sweetness of melons. Generally, organic fertilizer is mainly chicken manure and soybean cake; per mu, 15 cubic meters of chicken manure and 100 to 150 kg of soybean cake can be applied as a base fertilizer.
Apply Extra Potassium Fertilizer During the Fruiting Period
In the early stage of fruit setting, 8 to 10 kg of potassium fertilizer or 20 kg of high-potassium compound fertilizer can be applied per mu with irrigation water each time.
