What are the commonly used calcium source feeds for laying hens
Eggshell powder Eggshell powder is made by drying eggshells and is used as a calcium source feed. It contains some organic matter, generally with crude protein reaching 12.4% and calcium at 24.5%-26.5%. However, care should be taken to prevent eggshell contamination during use.
Limestone powder, namely limestone powder, is natural calcium carbonate. It generally contains about 38% pure calcium and is the cheapest mineral feed for calcium supplementation. Other relatively pure commercial calcium carbonate, chalk soil and old lime also have the same effect as limestone powder.
Shell powder When using shell powder as a calcium source feed, priority should be given to shells that have accumulated for many years on the seaside. Fresh shells should be disinfected, because protein spoilage and attached bacteria and viruses are more numerous, and without disinfection they often cause diseases in chickens. (Ke Xin)
