Simple Feeding and Management Methods for Growing-Finishing Pigs
1. Preparation before introducing pigs. One week before weaned piglets are moved into the growing-finishing pig house, check and repair the pen equipment, clean the pen, and then disinfect it with a 2% caustic soda aqueous solution or other disinfectant.
2. Feeding. After weaned piglets are moved into the house, use dry mash feed or wet mash feed (feed-to-water ratio of 1:0.5). In the early finishing stage, feed 3 to 4 times a day, with unlimited feeding and free access to drinking water. In the late finishing stage, feed 2 to 3 times a day, with unlimited feeding and free access to drinking water.
3. Management. After weaned piglets are moved into the growing-finishing pig house, group them according to similar principles of breed, body weight, and physical strength, with 10 to 20 pigs per group. After weaned piglets are moved into the growing-finishing pig house, training should be carried out promptly so that they gradually develop the habit of defecating, sleeping, eating, and drinking at fixed locations. The temperature inside the house should be controlled at 21°C to 16°C, with a relative humidity of 50% to 70%, and the air should be kept fresh. Clean the pen and remove manure twice a day, and disinfect the aisles inside the house once a week with a 2% caustic soda solution or other disinfectant. Ordinarily observe the pigs' feed intake, defecation, and mental state frequently, and isolate and treat them promptly when disease is found. When finishing pigs reach a body weight of 90 to 100 kg, they are ready for market.
