Taichung City Smart Green Building Forum Gathers Policy Visions

In response to climate change, the spirit of smart and green development has become a goal pursued by cities around the world. The Taichung City Government and the Taichung City Architecture Business Association jointly held the "2016 Smart Green Building Forum" on the 10th, with public sector agencies, private enterprises, scholars and other figures giving keynote speeches and sharing exchanges. Mayor Lin Chia-lung also attended to share his experience and views, hoping to pool collective wisdom and gather more policy visions for smart green buildings and smart cities in Taichung.

Mayor Lin Chia-lung said that Taichung is moving toward becoming a smart green city, including enacting self-governance ordinances for low-carbon city development, positioning the Shuinan Economic and Trade Park as a demonstration zone for an innovative low-carbon city, and receiving formal approval from the Executive Yuan to develop into the "Central Taiwan Smart Machinery Capital." He hopes to combine functions such as energy conservation and carbon reduction and community care to improve Taichung's living environment and build a people-oriented livable city.

Mayor Lin Chia-lung also said that Taichung takes embodying "innovation," "low carbon" and "smart" as its driving goals, and that digital machinery industry policy is closely tied to the Internet of Things, cloud technology and big data analysis. Developing the concept of smart green buildings can not only promote energy conservation and carbon reduction, but also integrate surrounding resources such as transportation, commerce, industry and ecology. He expressed gratitude and hoped all sectors would continue to push forward, improving urban regional planning and overall development through resource integration and joint cooperation, and also looked forward to the forum's suggestions from all parties serving as references for the city government's policy implementation.

The forum featured five keynote speeches, including "Prospects for Low-Carbon Cities and Smart Green Buildings," "Japan's Kashiwa-no-ha Smart City Demonstration," "Dutch Smart Green Buildings - Smart Energy-Saving Lighting," "Panasonic's Proposal for Healthy and Comfortable Housing to Meet Future Needs," and "Demonstration of Smart Green Building Low-Carbon Energy Saving," delivered respectively by the city government's Urban Development Bureau, Legislative Yuan Deputy Speaker Tsai Chi-chang, Hitachi, Ltd., Fu Yu Energy Saving Technology Co., Ltd., Panasonic Taiwan Matsushita Environmental Solutions, and Schneider Electric.
