What should be noted when raising pigs in a hot and rainy summer
This summer is not only hot, but also rainy. For pig farmers, to let their pig herds grow steadily and healthily, they must not only pay attention to heatstroke prevention and cooling work, but also pay attention to how to ensure the health of the pig herd under heavy rainfall conditions.
1. Keeping feed dry is most important. When pig farmers encounter long periods of rainy weather, they must strictly prevent feed from becoming moldy, such as corn, soybean meal and other bulk raw materials. The fundamental thing for raising pigs well is to ensure the use of good feed. Moreover, the losses caused by moldy feed to production are very large. It will not only cause pig farmers to lose money, but once moldy feed is fed to the pig herd, it will also affect the health of the pig herd. Therefore, in continuous rainy weather, pig farmers must keep feed dry to prevent mold. Even if the feed accidentally becomes moldy, as long as the degree is not deep, an anti-mold agent can be added to feed prepared from slightly moldy raw materials.
2. Disinfect frequently to prevent pig herd stress. In summer, the temperature is high, and combined with long periods of rainfall, high temperature and high humidity may cause stress in the pig herd. Be sure to pay attention to the stress caused to the pig herd by high temperature and high humidity, and prevent damage caused by high temperature and high humidity. Also, because there is no sunlight on rainy days, disinfection must be done frequently. Do not take it lightly just because you are afraid of trouble. It is best to use high-quality disinfectants to kill bacteria and viruses in the pig barn.
3. Adding drugs to feed can protect the pig herd. In recent years, pig farms have often faced threats such as Eperythrozoon suis and Toxoplasma during the high-temperature and high-humidity season in summer, and these diseases often involve complex infections. Therefore, on rainy days, some drugs should be added to the feed for prevention, for example, adding doxycycline 250-300 grams/ton + arsanilic acid 120 grams/ton + sulfamonomethoxine 600 grams/ton, mixing it for seven days each month. The pig herd will be much more stable.
4. Pay attention to killing insects to prevent diseases. Kill insects frequently, mainly flies and mosquitoes, external mange mites and some other arthropods, as this will reduce the occurrence of some diseases. Doing a good job of rodent control, fly control and blood-sucking insect control is also one of the important measures to reduce transmission vectors, prevent epidemic diseases and ensure the health of the pig herd. The whole pig farm should carry out regular insect extermination once a month, especially ensuring that rodents and insects are kept out of the feed warehouse; according to the season and farming schedule, carry out regular fly, mosquito and rodent control and other work.
5. Keeping the pig barn dry is most important. The last thing to note, and also the most important thing, is that on rainy days, the pig barn must be kept as dry as possible. Long periods of rainfall will inevitably make the pig barn damp or even waterlogged, breeding bacteria and affecting the health of the pig herd.
