How to Prevent and Treat Curling Tomato Leaves
There are two common situations of tomato leaf curling:
1. Physiological leaf curl. That is, during the fruiting stage, the lower old leaves curl upward. This situation is often caused by an imbalance in nutrient supply. Especially after topping, because vegetative growth is still relatively vigorous, the growth of the upper leaf surface cannot keep up with the growth of the lower leaf surface, causing leaf curl. This kind of leaf curl varies among different varieties. The more sensitive varieties show more obvious symptoms. However, this situation has little effect on tomato yield. It can be left untreated.
2. The heart leaves curl, sometimes accompanied by wrinkled mosaic leaves, which is caused by a viral disease. For example, cucumber mosaic virus sometimes looks like this.
At this point, it can be controlled as a viral disease. For example, use moroxydine copper to relieve symptoms. However, the more thorough method is to use disease-resistant tomato varieties, and use yellow boards and insect netting to repel aphids, preventing aphids from transmitting the virus while feeding. Then leaf curl disease will not occur.
