How to prevent and control tipburn in Chinese cabbage

Tipburn in Chinese cabbage (also called "dry heartburn") is usually a physiological disorder caused by calcium deficiency. Calcium deficiency in the plant affects the formation of calcium pectate in the cell walls, limits cell division, hinders the growth of Chinese cabbage, and causes a water imbalance within the plant, resulting in "dry heartburn." Prevention is mainly carried out from the following aspects:

1. Apply more organic fertilizer. Organic fertilizer not only contains elements such as nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium, but is also rich in elements such as calcium and silicon. It has comprehensive nutrients and a stable, long-lasting effect, and can be applied as a base fertilizer throughout the entire plow layer.

2. Reasonable drainage and irrigation. When the soil is dry and short of water, calcium is poorly absorbed in an available form; when there is too much water, the roots' absorption of nutrients is inhibited. Therefore, the soil should always be kept moist and well-aerated throughout the entire growth period of Chinese cabbage.

3. Apply plant ash. Plant ash contains a large amount of potassium and abundant calcium oxide. Applying plant ash to neutral and slightly acidic soil supplements potassium and increases calcium, and Chinese cabbage grows well.

4. Spray a calcium fertilizer aqueous solution during the growing period. Spraying 0.5% calcium chloride aqueous solution + 0.2-0.3% monopotassium phosphate 2-3 times in a row can effectively prevent and control this disorder.
