Introduction to the Cultivation Methods and Key Technical Points of Selfheal Spike
The Chinese medicinal herb selfheal spike (Prunella vulgaris) prefers a mild and humid climate and can withstand severe cold. Sandy loam with abundant sunlight and good drainage is best, followed by clay loam and calcareous loam.
Key points for cultivating selfheal spike: 1. Seed propagation: In the Beijing area, spring sowing is in mid-April, and autumn sowing is in late August. Drill sowing is mostly used, opening shallow furrows with a row spacing of 30 cm, scattering the seeds evenly in the furrows, and covering with a thin layer of soil. After sowing, the soil should be kept moist at all times, and seedlings emerge in about 10 days or more. 2. Division propagation: In spring, after the old roots sprout, dig out the roots and separate them, with each root bearing 1-2 young shoots, planting them as they are dug, and watering after planting. 3. Field management: After seedling emergence, weed regularly and loosen the soil 1-2 times; during the growing period, apply diluted manure 1-2 times as a top dressing, and pay attention to drainage during the rainy season.
