Cultivation and Management of Fritillaria
1. Seed Cultivation and Treatment Fritillaria cirrhosa is mainly propagated by seeds. (1) Seed cultivation: When harvesting Fritillaria in June-July, select bulbs with a diameter of more than 1 cm, disease-free and undamaged, as seed bulbs. Plant the bulbs separately according to large, medium and small sizes, and plant them as they are dug. Use 100 kg of bulbs per mu. Hole planting can also be used. From the second year after planting, spray zhencaoning before emergence in March each year; after emergence in early April, promptly pull out weeds. And apply dilute human and animal manure water. From late April to early May, apply another topdressing. In July-August, when the fruits are plump and swollen, the fruit shells are yellow-brown or brown, and the seeds have dried their milky juice, cut off the fruits, and either thresh them fresh or carry out after-ripening treatment with the fruit shells. (2) Seed after-ripening treatment: For seeds with shells, use sieved fine humus soil with a moisture content of less than 10%, place one layer of fruits and one layer of soil in an airtight wooden box, and put it in a cool, moist place. For threshed seeds, mix them with humus soil at a ratio of 1:4 (seeds:humus soil) and store them indoors or in an airtight wooden box. During storage, keep the soil moist; the fruit skin (seed coat) swells, and after about 40 days, the embryo length exceeds 2/3 of the long axis of the seed, and the tip of the embryo is curved. After completing embryo morphological after-ripening, they can be sown. 2. Sowing        Sow before snowfall in September-October (Taibai Fritillaria, the same below). Drilling, broadcasting, or point sowing by dividing capsules into segments can all be used. Drilling: Open horizontal furrows on the seedbed surface, 1.5-2 cm deep; evenly scatter the seeds mixed with fine soil or plant ash into the furrows. Cover with sieved fine humus soil 3 cm thick, and cover the seedbed surface with mountain grass or leafless branches. Use 2-2.5 kg of seeds per mu. Broadcasting: Evenly scatter the seeds on the seedbed surface, with 3,000-5,000 seeds per square meter being suitable. Cover as in drilling. Point sowing: Carry out while the fruits are not yet dry. Divide the undried fruits into 3 segments, open holes on the seedbed surface at a spacing of 5-6 cm between plants and rows, place 1 segment per hole, and cover with 3 cm of soil. This method is more labor-intensive, but the emergence rate is high.
