What varieties of sunflowers are there?
The Complete Guide to Growing Flowers
Sunflowers have large flowers and brilliant colors; different varieties bloom in different sizes and colors. Below, Huahua will take everyone to admire all kinds of sunflower seas!
Big Smile
This one truly lives up to its name; one look and you can't help but want to laugh along with it!
"Come on, look at the camera, everyone smile!"
Teddy Bear
The first time Huahua saw the Teddy Bear sunflower, the thought was: is this thing here to be funny? Its features are furry and very blurry, and it always looks innocently bewildered!
You could say it's a cute pet with its own halo~
"Huh, where am I, I'm so confused"~
Sunspot
Sunspot, with a greenish-brown flower disk, like a black sunspot on the sun. To be honest, with this variety's dark middle, it looks a bit creepy from a distance, and Huahua can't quite appreciate it!
Music Box
The Music Box sunflower also has a black central disk, with petals transitioning from cream yellow to brownish red, carrying a bit of the beauty of sunset afterglow~
Hairy-leaf sunflower
The hairy-leaf sunflower has white rough hairs on its stems, a small flower disk and relatively narrow petals; under light, the color is golden yellow with a hint of transparency, very beautiful.
Autumn Time
Autumn Time comes in many colors, including golden yellow, red and brown, and is a very ideal cut-flower variety.
How do you propagate and care for sunflowers?
The Complete Guide to Growing Flowers
Sunflowers are bright and elegant, highly ornamental and also practical, and very easy to care for. From sowing and blooming to maturity takes about 3 months!
1. Seed selection
If growing in a flowerpot, it is recommended to choose ornamental (dwarf sunflower) seeds; if growing in a yard, you can use edible sunflower seeds. Be sure to buy raw sunflower seeds that produce many seeds; the roasted seeds you usually eat will not work.
2. Sowing
Sunflowers have low soil requirements. After watering ordinary garden soil thoroughly, sow 2 seeds into it, water thoroughly once more, then place it in a ventilated spot with scattered light to grow, and they will sprout in 3~5 days!
3. Transplanting
When the sunflower's tender sprouts push out of the soil and open their cotyledons, they can be transplanted into a large pot. After transplanting, water enough to settle the roots, and be sure to water thoroughly. It is recommended to place it indoors in a sunny spot; if you want to put it under the sun, you need to water it often.
4. Care
Light: Sunflower seedlings, leaves and flower disks all have strong phototropism. Only with sufficient light can they grow robustly with vigorous branches and leaves; with insufficient light, the leaves droop and turn yellow, and the flower disk is small and lacks luster.
Watering: Summer is when sunflowers grow most vigorously, and the plants consume a lot of water, so water every morning and evening to keep the soil moist.
Fertilizing: To ensure blooming, when the seedlings grow 3~4 pairs of true leaves, spray some monopotassium phosphate or fermented soybean cake fertilizer water on the leaves every few days.
Pruning: Pinch off the growing tips during the seedling stage, and promptly prune excess side buds during the growing period to prevent branches and leaves from growing leggy, ensuring more blooms and brilliant colors.
Flower friends, aren't sunflowers both beautiful and easy to grow?
