Planting Techniques for Banksia Rose

I believe everyone has heard Jay Chou's "Common Jasmine Orange," and the "common jasmine orange" in the lyrics is actuallyBanksia roseanother name for it, because when the banksia rose blooms, its fragrance travels far, so in some places the banksia rose is called "seven-mile fragrance" or "ten-mile fragrance."

BanksiaThe flower is the root or leaf of the banksia rose, a plant in the Rosaceae family. It is produced in Sichuan, Yunnan and other places in China. It is astringent in taste and neutral in nature. It enters the liver meridian. It has the effects of astringing the intestines to stop diarrhea, detoxifying, and stopping bleeding. It treats diarrhea, dysentery, sores and boils, excessive menstruation, bloody stool and other conditions.

Propagation method 1:

The propagation of banksia rose is mainly carried out by cuttings, layering and grafting. The survival rate of cuttings is relatively high, and the cutting time is generally in early December. From the current year's banksia rose growth, select strong hard branches and cut them into cuttings 10 to 20 cm long. After cutting, cover them to protect against the cold. Softwood cuttings can be done during the plum rain season.

Propagation method 2:

The survival rate of layering is also relatively high, and the air layering method is mostly used, carried out from early spring to early summer. When layering, the part that goes into the soil needs to be notched, and the soil should be kept moist. Banksia rose can also be propagated by grafting, using wild rose, single-petal banksia rose or Shibajie as rootstock for indoor cleft grafting from December to January of the following year, or outdoor cleft grafting in February to March.

Potted cultivation: Banksia rose can be grown in pots or planted in flower beds. For potted banksia rose, the flower pot needs to be large, and sufficient base fertilizer must be applied during cultivation to ensure its growth; during the growing period of banksia rose, apply a decomposed dilute liquid fertilizer once every 20 to 30 days. Note that nitrogen fertilizer should not be excessive, otherwise it will cause lush growth of branches and leaves with few flowers.

Light and watering: Banksia rose prefers a sunny environment, is cold-resistant and tolerant of half shade, is not afraid of heat, but avoids dampness and waterlogging, and likes sandy soil that drains and breathes well and is fertile. Banksia rose seedlings are afraid of direct light, so attention should be paid to shading during the growing period. Banksia rose has strong sprouting ability. After sprouting in spring, applying compound fertilizer once or twice can promote larger flowers and a rich fragrance.

Regular pruning: Banksia rose is also very tolerant of pruning. In winter, the plant should be pruned once to remove dead branches, diseased branches, leggy branches and overly dense branches, so as to enhance ventilation and light penetration inside the plant. In addition to pruning the plant in winter, after the flowers fade, the remaining flower stalks and some branches should also be cut off in time to ensure concentrated supply of nutrients, so that stronger new branches can grow and more flowers can bloom.

Pest and disease control: The main disease of banksia rose is root rot. Diseased plants should be pulled out in time. 4 kg of 70% quintozene can also be mixed beside the plant, and formalin can also be used to disinfect the soil. The main pests of banksia rose include silver-marked noctuid, black aphid, short-horned grasshopper and others, which can be sprayed and killed with 80% trichlorfon at 800 to 1000 times dilution.
