A Detailed Guide to Mugwort Planting Techniques and Care Methods
What are the planting techniques and care methods for mugwort? Mugwort is a high-yield plant, and people generally grow it in pursuit of economic returns; it is relatively rare for it to be kept as a household plant, so mugwort care is mainly aimed at collective production.
Mugwort Planting Techniques and Care Methods
1. Growth is mainly aimed at harvesting tender shoot tips and young leaves.
2. Attention must be paid to the timing of division. In production, asexual propagation is mainly carried out by rhizome division, but seed propagation can also be used. Generally, seed propagation is sown in March, and rhizome propagation is carried out in November.
3. Site selection must be done carefully. The bed width is about 1.5 m, and the bed surface is high in the middle and low on both sides, like a “fish back” shape, to avoid water accumulation that causes disease.
4. Fertilization requires particular attention. Before sowing, sufficient base fertilizer must be applied; generally 4000 kg of decomposed farmyard manure is applied per 667 sq m, and after deep ploughing and thoroughly mixing it evenly with the soil, a full basal watering is given immediately after bed preparation.
5. There are fertilizer requirements. In early March each year, the rhizomes overwintering in the ground begin to sprout, and the first crop is harvested in late April. Each crop yields 11250-15000 kg of fresh product per hectare per crop, with 4-5 crops harvested each year. After each harvest, a certain amount of topdressing must be applied, mainly decomposed diluted human and livestock manure, appropriately supplemented with phosphorus and potassium fertilizers.
